Microsoft announced today that it will be releasing a service pack for Exchange Server 2007 and has opened a technology preview. If you are a Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) or TechNet subscribers you can download the service pack beta.
According to Microsoft, more than 150,000 people are already testing the service pack at organizations such as the US Army, Oconics and Windrush Frozen Foods Ltd.
Exchange Server 2007 SP1 features enhancements such as support for Windows Server 2008, enhanced integration with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007, and improved mobile device management and advanced security technology.
Terry Myerson, general manager for Exchange Server at Microsoft, said: “With the new service pack, we have zeroed in on several areas of investment that are important to our customers, including support for Microsoft’s next-generation platforms and improved mobile device management. SP1 will drive added value for our customers, further establishing Exchange Server as the foundation of a unified communications platform.”
Key new features include:
- Support for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista.
- Enhanced integration with Office Communications Server 2007.
- Additional Exchange ActiveSync policies. New Exchange ActiveSync policies in SP1 build on Exchange Server 2007’s robust security and management features with new policies for synchronization, authentication and encryption.
Both Exchange Server 2007 SP1 and Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1 should be generally available in the fourth quarter of 2007.
