Fujitsu’s new mini-notebook tablet

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Fujitsu's new mini-notebook tablet Fujitsu has a new mini-notebook/tablet computer on the horizon.  It’s not your traditional mini-notebook nor is it a traditional anything, it takes several ideas and compresses them together in a single unique product.

Cnet called the Fujitsu U810 (known the U1o10 in Australia) ”a clunky ultra mobile PC.”  But it’s not a UMPC nor is it a full notebook or tablet, it’s something in between.  The U810 features an Intel A110 processor, the same that Samsung uses in its UMPCs, it has a rotating touchscreen display (like a tablet) and comes equipped with nice standard hardware.

It has a biometric reader (fingerprint scanner) for extra security, webcam, keyboard light and a stylus completes the touch screen.  The keys are sized nicely even though they are not full sized, it has a memory card reader for SD and Compactflash, several USB ports and can connect to a docking station through the use of its Ethernet dongle.

The usual wireless suspects are supported including 802.11 a/b/g, bluetooth and support for Wide area Wireless Networks.  It comes with a standard 5.5 hour battery, 40GB hard drive and 1GB of memory.  Operating system choices include Vista Premium, Business or XP Tablet Edition.  Prices for the U810 start at $999 when it ships September 18.  It weighs 1.5 pounds.
