Skype service outage to last 12 to 24 hours
Skype users are a bit baffled right now as its network is down, the problem has been confirmed by the company and we’re looking at 12 to 24 hours before it will be fixed.
Millions of Skype users are currently unable to connect to the network because it will not authenticate a majority of logon attempts. Most services including voice, chat and voicemails services are either down or not letting users logon.
Some users are unaffected having authenticated themselves before the outage occurred around 9am US eastern time today. Skype has confirmed there is a software issue with the system which should be fixed within 12 to 24 hours. Skype downloads are also temporarily offline until the issue is fixed.
Though some are still able to logon to the service and the contact lists work half the time there are still problems with voice, text and chat services. One user reported a time delay of 30 minutes while his message was sent.
Skype’s advice is to leave the client running so that it can authenticate once service resumes normal operation. For updates regarding this issue see the Skype Blog.
