Exam cheats go hi-tech with wireless earpiece

By Arnold Zafra

Exam cheats go hi-tech with wireless earpiece Gadget company ExamEar has come under fire for promoting its state-of-the-art wireless earpieces as a sophisticated way of cheating during examinations for both high school and college students. The tiny earpiece, which the company says is just as big as a five cent coin, was promoted as a risk-free way of cheating during examinations.

The company highlighted the following benefits on its web site:

  • No more breaking your head over a difficult tests or exam
  • No more memorizing long and boring speeches
  • No more screwing your friends or group members
  • No more thinking about getting caught by using old notes

The cheater’s earpiece comes in three models: silver, gold and platinum.

The low end silver model costs $200 and is enough to answer the needs of students doing the usual round of tests and examinations. It is powered by a four-hour battery charge and can be connected to a dicta phone, mp3 player or iPod.

The mid-range gold model is said to offer a higher rate of success for cheating than the silver model, and hence is more expensive.

The most sophisticated model of the earpiece is the platinum unit, which can be connected to a microphone via bluetooth wireless technology. Friends and classmates can then feed the answers to students taking the exams using this microphone.

UK officials are already looking into the company that manufactures and sells the controversial products. But it seems that ExamEar might have foreseen this, and decided to shut down its website as of today. Looks like ExamEar might have pushed its luck a little too far.
