Are these the Zune 2.0 and Zune Flash?

By Danny Mendez

Are these the Zune 2.0 and Zune Flash?Someone’s let a Microsoft cat out of the bag. It turns out leaked pictures of the upcoming Zune 2.0 and Zune Flash are making the usual rounds secret pictures make on the web.

According to Gizmodo, these are supposedly official marketing shots confirmed by multiple sources.

The web is receiving the pictures with mixed results. Some love the form factor. Some hate it, as usual. Some can’t tell which one’s the Zune 2.0 and the Zune Flash, and others think the new controller looks like Mickey Mouse.

Speaking of the new controller, it’s supposed to be a touch sensitive and clickable, squared-off circle with two buttons off to each sides.

As confirmed by Microsoft, the new Zune will build on the wireless support, and, if this is the new Zune, maybe we’ll finally have the option of synching our players sans cables via Wi-Fi. Other than sharing music, that’s all Wi-Fi’s good for on a music player, so if Microsoft doesn’t deliver on that, the company will most likely see mediocre sales numbers once again. The new Zune should also hit stores before the end of the Holiday Season.

Update: Well, it turns out these are the new Zunes.

    1. Microsoft:

These are definitely fake. We wouldn’t be caught dead with anything so cool, doesn’t really go with our image.

Please remove these images before people start thinking that we’re cool.

Somehow I’m skeptical of this. Even Zune’s current marketing shots are far better than the mock-up I see above. They pay photographers and designers millions of dollars overall, but that looks like it was done by a 6th grade student.

Who knows, it may be the final device, but I seriously doubt it’s an actual marketing shot.
