Round 3 of Apple vs NBC war of words continues
By Sean P. Aune
Like a game of “He said/She said”, NBC has fired back at Apple for their press release about NBC wanting more money for its episodes.
As we reported yesterday, Apple and NBC are firing rounds back and forth in their war of words over their crumbling media distribution partnership. First NBC said it would not be renewing its contract with Apple, then Apple said it was because NBC wanted more per episode, and now NBC says that isn’t exactly true.
NBC is now claiming it never asked for an increase in payment, but merely wanted the ability to change packaging offers. An example that was given say you would buy the movie Evan Almighty an you would receive a “free” episode of The Office since both products feature the actor Steve Carell. There also appears to have been an argument over Apple not taking more concrete steps towards protecting the content from piracy.
NBC is saying it is hoping that talks can resume before the contract expires, so there does appear to be a willingness on both sides. Aside from the trading of barbs, there has been no other concrete movement.
