Apple losing its touch with iPod Touch displays
It should come as no surprise that another of Apple’s first generation products is having problems. Many early users are reporting that the iPod touch (probably) does not have the same display as the iPhone since it has a few issues that the iPhone does not.
Most of the complaints about the iPod Touch are geared towards the unit’s inability to display black areas very well. Reports from Engadget, the Apple Forum and other sites indicate that when viewing black areas in photos or videos, that it is almost like looking at a negative.
What’s causing it is unknown though it does appear to be a widespread problem with early iPod Touch units. Some say that if you simply tilt the display the problem disappears but that can also wash out the colors. Other owners report the problem regardless of what is being displayed, in some cases it is so bad that the home screen looks almost negative.
Others are reporting a limited number of dead or stuck pixels on the display. In either case, running to your nearest Apple store should result in an exchange/refund situation after demonstrating your unit has one or both of these problems, that does not mean the replacement won’t have the same issue.
It is not known how many units Apple will let you go through before “enough is enough” and decide that you don’t need any more.
So far, the company has not commented.

I adore these ad-based, organic ecosystem of websites: any issues found in any Apple products will be magnified and resolved in due time; the ad companies has driven us all into armchair QA’s!

First gen Apple products may have problems, but I have had absolutely no problems with their service.
Good example, my Mac Mini. Optical drive died a month after getting it, took it to a THIRD-PARTY Apple retailer, because they don’t have official stores in Canada for the most part. Had the unit back in 3 days (2 and a half actually) with a new drive, and Apple and the third-party retailer handled the billing issues (the retailer charges Apple for repairs under Applecare). No 3 week wait ala Staples or Best Buy (
both of which have terrible turn-around times).
