Microsoft’s flash based Zune gets launch date

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Untitled-1 The much rumored Zune 2 will be launching sooner than anticipated with both hard drive and flash based models to choose from.

According to a “source” at Engadget the Zune 2 will be launching October 16 with the hard drive model coming with an 80GB hard drive and the flash players coming in 4GB or 8GB with your choice of pink, red, black, or army green colors.

The change to the Zune 2 is a new smaller form factor for the hard drive player new navigation buttons.  Both the Zune hard drive and flash players are said to have something called a “squircle” as the controls.  The “squircle” does not have a center button but can be pushed from “any side.”

Too bad it doesn’t have a touch screen like a certain other player.  All two of you that don’t yet have an audio player have a choice to make, iPod Touch or Zune.  Decide now.

They spy shots may not exactly be the final version, I won’t call PhotoShop but Gizmodo was a bit skeptical.
