T-Mobile reseller unlocking iPhones
By Jonathan Schlaffer
The iPhone is only supposed to work on AT&T but there are those that insist on getting to use it on their prefered network of choice, Verizon subscribers will have to wait until 2013 when (supposedly) it will switch over to GSM networks.
A certain T-Mobile reseller reportedly located close to an Apple store is (or was) proudly advertising the fact that they would unlock your iPhone for you and get you a contract with T-Mobile.
First of all, dealing with a T-Mobile reseller is not the same as dealing with T-Mobile so who knows what kind of service you would get if you called up T-Mobile itself for customer service. Secondly, if you don’t like the iPhone you are stuck with the thing and a now useless contract to boot.
Apple takes a dim view to people attempting to return unlocked iPhones to the Apple Store, meaning, in most cases they won’t do it. They might and let me emphasize, MIGHT be willing to exchange it provided you pay a 10% restocking fee.
When all is said and done, it’s not worth unlocking the iPhone as you might end up with an expensive paperweight. I doubt very much a mere reseller would be willing to take responsibility for damage done to your iPhone during the unlocking process but I don’t know that for certain.
