Amazon: Zune 2.0 80 GB unleashed November 13?

By Danny Mendez

Amazon: Zune 2.0 80 GB unleashed November 13?Microsoft never gave us an official release date for the new Zune 2.0 and Flash Zune but instead gave us a release window of mid-November. It turns out Amazon couldn’t keep it’s mouth shut and let the cat out of the bag early.

If you look up the Zune 80 GB player on Amazon, you’ll find that it says the following about the product’s availability:

This item will be released on November 13, 2007. Pre-order now! Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available.

Yes, Amazon gift-wraps stuff for you, but let’s ignore that for now. What’s interesting is the specific November 13, 2007 launch date with any mention of "released by" omitted. They’re saying that they’re 100% sure that the Zune 80 GB gets released on that day.

It’s common for online stores to put up phony release dates for products to be released in the (far) future, only to fix the dates when more information becomes available. We can’t say for sure that Amazon knows enough right now, but they’re acting like they do.

If you can’t wait or you’re willing to sacrifice the better, thinner body and bigger hard-drive to save a few bucks, Amazon also has the first generation white Zune 30 GB for $179.99. Remember that the first generations Zune will be able to do everything the new Zunes can (including wireless synching) thanks to a firmware update released by Microsoft.
