Apple’s Mac Nano: The mini Mac Mini and the Macbook Nano
By Danny Mendez
If computers are just too big for you in their current state, I’ve got good news. Actually, it’s a rumor that says the Mac Mini’s time is up, only to be replaced by the Mac Nano. A smaller, thinner Macbook is also in the lineup.
It looks like we weren’t so crazy when we reported that the Mac Mini was going to die soon. We just had the wrong Apple event.
According to Mac OS Rumors, the Mac Mini is going to meet its maker in an Apple event sometime between now and mid-December. MOSR cites one of its "oldest and most reliable" sources in Cupertino for the rumor, although he/she isn’t sure about the name being the Mac Nano.
The specific details that the source is sure about are as follows:
- It will be as small as an internal optical drive will allow.
- It will be just a tad taller than 2/3 of the Mini’s height.
- Overall volume will be decreased by about 25%.
- Weight will be decreased by about 20%.
- The enclosure will be "strikingly" different than the Mini’s original, white case.
The rumor site also mentions the Macbook Nano, which is almost a sure thing for the future but perhaps not by that name. MOSR does believe that it will be introduced at an Apple event before the end of December.
