Scientist invents computerized pillow to stop snoring

A German scientist, who happens to be a self-proclaimed snorer, has invented a computerized anti-snoring pillow that analyzes breathing noise and shifts the sleeper’s head position until the snoring stops.
Daryoush Bazargani, a University of Rostock computer science professor and the pillow’s inventor, told Reuters that “The pillow is attached to a computer, which is the size of a book, rests on a bedside table, and analyzes snoring noises.”
Bazargani explained how the system works in an interview with Fibre2fashion. He said “The [pillow] has many air chambers and a computer can reduce or enlarge the air chambers to change the head position of the sleeper. The computer searches and finds the optimal position of the head facilitating easy breathing. Optimal breathing position is the best position with the least snoring noise or help completely stopping snoring.”
The prototype of his invention was first displayed at a health conference in Germany.
Bazargani said several US firms have already expressed an interest in manufacturing the pillow which can also be used for neck massages.
Bazargani expects that there is a huge market for his invention considering that North Americans spend around $2.5 billion on sleep aid products every year.
His motivation for this invention is for him to stop snoring. He said: “I tried all sorts of products, but nothing worked. I hope people who use it will sleep more peacefully.”
