NTT DoComMo unveils “Fitness Phone” with health monitoring devicesJapan’s mobile phone carrier, NTT DoCoMo, has unveiled a “Fitness Phone,” designed for users with busy lives who want a hassle-free way of monitoring their health and fitness.

The Fitness Phone is equipped with various health monitoring devices that enables you to measure health indicators like pulse rate, body fat levels, the amount of steps you’ve taken in a day, and the calories you burn. Based on these indicators, the phone can dispenses health advice after you’ve punched in data such as your age, gender and weight. In addition, the device can tell you if you have bad breath.

Kentaro Endo, a spokesman for NTT DoCoMo told IBN Live that “Anybody trying to stay fit could use this phone.”

“Our primary target groups would be fat-fighting middle-aged businessmen and young women on diets,” Endo told Reuters.

NTT DoCoMo has disclosed that it is still testing some of the phone’s other technology, including a function to keep track of meals and calculate calorific intake, as well as a networking capacity to let users share data, The Associated Press writes.

With people becoming more health conscious today and the phone’s unique marketing angle, it seems it could be the next hit when it reaches the store.

However, the company has not set a release date or the price for the Fitness Phone, or if it can be sold overseas.
