UK McDonalds to host largest free WiFi network
By Ema Kwiatkowski
Would you like WiFi with that? McDonalds announced this weekend that by the end of 2007, all of its UK restaurants will offer free Wifi.
McDonalds made this weekends announcement seemingly in retaliation to Starbucks’ exclusive partnership with Apple. Customers now have the option to use their laptops, mobile phones and other WiFi enabled devices without any fees. Adding to the appeal is there will be no ‘"minimum order" to use the hotspots or access time limits, making it easy to just breeze in and use it.
"The launch of free wi-fi in our restaurants in the UK is an exciting move that we believe will further enhance our customers’ experience when they visit us." McDonald’s Restaurants chief executive Steve Easterbrook stated.
This free WiFi announcement will have a major impact on UK networking. McDonalds will now host 10 percent of the total WiFi hot-spots in the UK. dBTechno news explains:
McDonald’s is making a bold and free move in the UK which can only mean cheaper and more efficient service for all in that part of the world that wants broadband internet access at all times and for free.
It is looking like the UK is a lot closer than the US to making WiFi available to everyone.
