Acer launches first dual Blu-ray/HD-DVD PC
The war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD rages on, with Acer unveiling what it claims to be the first desktop PC to have both Blu-ray and HD-DVD capabilities.
Raymond Vardanega, marketing director of Acer Australia division, told ITWire that “Acer realized that the battle between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is still in play, and therefore understood the need to create a solution that future proofed our offering in the market.”
The new Aspire M5630 series comes equipped with a GGC-H20N from Hitachi-LG which has the ability to play 1920 x 1080 resolution HD content via either Blu-ray or HD-DVD disk. It features Vista Home Premium, 2GB DDR2 system memory, ATI X2400 Pro 256MB PCI-Express x16 video, wireless keyboard and mouse, and an Acer HDCP 22inch LCD monitor.
The new Aspire M5630 powered by an Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad processor with 500GB HDD has a price tag of $A2299, while the one powered by Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 with 320 hard drive has a price tag of $A1999.
Regardless of when will the battle of high definition format be over or who is going to win, Acer’s Aspire M5630 series is in position to target the entire high definition DVD market.
While the M5630 series is expected to be available this month in Australia, there is no word yet as to when it will reach the US and Europe market. But we’ll keep you posted should there be additional developments.
