New Zune 4 and 8 do not have video out capabilities

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Official: Microsoft's Zune 2.0 and Flash Zune w/ Wi-Fi sync

While Microsoft is still preparing to ship the new Zune 80, 4 and 8 here is some more information for you to chew on.  The new flash based Zune 4 and 8 do not have video out capabilities.

Still, unlike the new iPods, most existing accessories that work with the Zune 30 (aka Zune Classic) will work with the new Zune 80, 4 and 8 except for cases because of the varying sizes.

According to Zune insider, the new Zunes will import video at 720×480 @30fps or 720×576 @25fps without transcoding. The Zune 80 features DVD quality video-out resolution.

The Zune 80 only features an on-screen resolution of 320 x 240 (compare that to the superior 480 x 320 screen of the iPod Touch) and as for the Zune 4 and 8, they do not feature video out capabilities at all.  But hey, the iPod Nanos do.

On a side note, I am not a fan of the new interfaces on the iPod Classic and iPod Nano, if you want an iPod, I’m afraid the Touch is the only way to go.
