Official 1.1.1 iPhone jailbreak method and tools released
By Danny Mendez
Hot on the heels of the iPod Touch jailbreak/3rd party app guide, the iPhone Dev team released the first official instructions and tools for jailbreaking and installing 3rd party apps on 1.1.1 iPhones.
A few things to take into consideration before you jailbreak an iPhone running the 1.1.1 firmware: This jailbreak will not unlock your phone, and, if you unlocked you device using AnySIM, you will permanently brick your iPhone with this method.
Onto the jailbreak, iPhone Atlas reports in with the proess, which consists of the following:
- Downgrading to the 1.0.2 firmware if you’ve already upgraded to 1.1.1.
- Preparing the iPhone for a jailbroken update.
- Updating your iPhone, leaving you with a jailbroken 1.1.1 iPhone.
- Forcing the 1.1.1 firmware to mount with read and write access.
- Installing SSH and BSD world.
- Activating with a Non-AT&T SIM unless you use AT&T.
- Install the SpringBoard patch in order to allow for third party apps to show up on the home screen.
If you’re intimidated by what was just described, fear not. The method may take a while, but everything is pretty detailed so as not to leave us common folk hanging.
