New vest technology translates in-game impacts into physical sensations

By Ruben Francia

New vest technology translates in-game impacts into physical sensationsGamers! Do you want to feel being shot, stab, slam and hit in alongside with your on-screen character? Here is a vest that will translate in-game impacts into physical sensations.

Originally created for use in the medical field to allow Internet-based medical exams, the 3rdSpace FPS Vest by TN Games is designed to deliver hits and shots exactly where you would feel them.

The vest uses air pressure and feedback from computer games to deliver pneumatic thumps to players’ torsos to correspond with where they would have been struck in the game, AFP writes.

“Our patented vest technology now provides gamers with an unprecedented opportunity to physically experience their action, bridging the divide between virtual and physical reality,” said Mark Ombrellaro, Founder/CEO, TN Games. “Our technology enables gamers to get pounded, feel the rush of body slams, be crushed with G-forces, feel a stab wound or be blasted with bullet fire in either a single or multi-player game experience.”

The “3rd Space” vest is expected to reach the US market in November 21, at a price of $189. It will be launched with Activision’s “Call of Duty” and a TN Games premier titled game “Incursion.”

In addition, the company has disclosed that it has developed software patches to integrate 3rd Space technology to Quake 3, Quake 4, and Doom 3 games. Gamers who own or purchase these titles can purchase the 3rd Space FPS Vest and download the patches for free.

It seems that this development will not only enhance the marketability of the above game titles but will also bring a new physical gaming experience.
