On behalf of the Heritage Foundation, I'd like to clear up some misleading information in this article. The Heritage Foundation has no affiliation with Heritage New Media Partners Inc. or The New Media Journal. And the reference to Heritage as a channel for "funding for public relations efforts for conservative causes" is just plain false. The Heritage Foundation is a public policy research and educational institute.

Newsvine took action because the user in question was abusing our system and disregarding our terms of service.

We have to take the same measures daily, with respect to other people who attempt to use Newsvine's seeding feature to drive traffic back to sites they're affiliated with.

The difference in this case was that the user in question had gotten away with the improper seeding practices for a long time, before he was exposed by another user, as described in this article.

Cheers,

Calvin
COO, Newsvine

I'm not sure I understand this article. It sounds like Newsvine took action because Mr Salvato was posting his own stories, but the article makes it sound like action was taken because he:

posted articles from his site
his site has conservative donation banner ads
he's worked for FOX

If supporting writers who write with a certain political perspective is wrong

If posting articles from sites that have political banner ads is wrong

If having worked for a news media outlet is wrong

Then...isn't that political censorship rather than taking action against self-promotion, and if those three things (and more) are not related to the action taken by Newsvine...then how are they relevant to the action taken, and the sins committed? Oh, I see, he's a conservative. Sorry. I forgot. He's one of "THOSE" people.
