i bash the command line junk all day long. hate it! stupid!!

love linux though!!

usually much more leary about some updates that come through the various repositories in linux than i ever was in windows.

unzipping password protected files sometimes sucks in linux also and cd burning is not as dependable, although if you slow down the burner a notch or two, it's not bad.

still,
love the look and feel of linux though!!

Mr. Hess,

Your article has points. But I have to say, you won't get away with the apples and oranges argument. People are naturally going to compare Ubuntu to Windows. Human nature.

But you know what, I want them to. But I want them to compare Kubuntu 7.10 to Vista. It will be a matter of do you want your PC to work or not? Once that realization is seeded its game-set-match.

As Open Source supporters we better get use to the slings and arrows. The barbs will only get sharper as Linux Desktop penetration continues. Microsoft will not give up market share without a fight.

Modern desktop Linux is a viable desktop for many users now.

Yes, Windows is more polished in some areas.

But Linux is more polished in others.

And Linux is far more functional.

And free.

And far far more secure and robust (from bit-rot).
