T-Mobile HotSpot@Home compensates for shoddy coverage

By Triston McIntyre

T-Mobile HotSpot@Home compensates for shoddy coverageT-Mobile, a leading cell phone service provider to the U.S, has recently instituted a unique new optional feature for customers known as “T-Mobile HotSpot@Home,” which allows users to seamlessly make phone calls over their WiFi without using their minutes for $20 a month.

Here’s how it works: a user can purchase a phone from the diverse and extensive catalogue of phones..including BOTH the Samsung T-409 with WiFi and the BlackBerry Curve. I know, decisions like this could drive you to insanity, what with all the choices, but that’s T-Mobile’s quality. Once you have your phone, you tack on $20 to your monthly plan, and you get:

1. unlimited WiFi calling when in WiFi range
2. increased call quality and coverage

And that’s about it. You’re looking at T-Mobile’s next-gen solution to their lack of service across the U.S.

That’s right, instead of actually adding more towers to reach regions that don’t receive service, T-Mobile wants you to tack on an additional $20 monthly charge so you, too, can get the coverage you deserve in your remote college town.

Sure, you’re getting free calling when in range of WiFi, but does that really justify an additional $20 a month? Why not just upgrade to a plan that adds the minutes you need?

To be frank, T-Mobile’s service any anything other than condensed areas is among the worst of all service providers in the U.S. For an additional $20 a month, you could easily switch service providers to a carrier who will actually provide you coverage wherever you need it; No names shall be dropped, but we could say a decent alternative might rhyme with “Hermizon.”

If you can’t part from the service provider that was once home to Catherine Zeta-Jones (its ok, I can’t), this might “fix” your coverage problems; however, if you do not receive service at your place of residence, you can effectively break contract with T-Mobile without any cancellation fees…just food for thought.

I believe your article is mistaken about the $20 charge. That $19.99 charge is for unlimited voice service over wifi. You are not required to get this service to use the wifi capability of the 3 wifi phones that Tmobile offers. In other words, you can use your existing service minutes on your new Tmobile wifi/hotspot capable phone. No need to upgrade your service, just your phone.
