Microsoft, Apple play time-strategy in Vista, Leopard released
By Ruben Francia
While most companies think that the best time to release a product is when it is fully completed, big companies like Microsoft and Apple seem to take different approach.
At the time Microsoft released Windows Vista, the Apple camp was still busy developing the iPhone and Leopard operating system. This situation resulted in very strong Vista media coverage, which resulted in a good volume of initial sales.
The same thing happened during the release of Leopard when Microsoft was preoccupied completing its Windows XP SP3 and Vista SP1 offerings. Reports, up to now, say Leopard continues to enjoy strong coverage and great initial sales.
If Microsoft and Apple released Vista and Leopard at the same time, then there would be a head-to-head competition.
However, both companies seem to know too well that by taking turns to release their products they ensure that each of their products will receive their time in the sun. After all, why gamble to lose?
The fact remains that Apple and Microsoft are both trying to reach the same market, and I’m sure that Microsoft will release Vista SP1 at a time when the Apple camp has got nothing to release.
