These gPCs are only available at highly select Wal Mart locations. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to go down to your local Wal Mart and pick up one of these gPCs from the electronics dept. Only 600 stores will be marketing these computers, primarily those located in "college towns" and near large universities.

Wal Mart appears to be "preying" on those poor unsophisticated computer science majors and university professors.

John:

They'll ask some one who knows something about it, just as they do with any OS. Linux recognizes most basic printers just fine. As far as how to use it, you click an icon, or choose from a menu. Most users in this target market know very little about Windows as well. At least her software will update after driver updates without the WGA accusations of criminality and getting the OS disabled, or have the machine made unusable with virus and spyware. I seriously doubt Walmart will make a bundle selling Vista on a 512 meg machine. An operating system will run quite well doing basic tasks, especially web apps. Jonathon has a well documented dislike of Linux. I don't really know how a simple, uncomplicated and secure appliance is "preying" on the uninformed. A quick scan of the Vista entries on this website will show who is the uninformed prey.

Who will these "unsophisticated" users ask when there are questions about how to hook up a printer or use the thing? Most users don't know a thing about Linux and that means a lot of confusion when it comes to using the thing.
My guess is Microsoft and Walmart will make a bundle selling Windows to many of them. I would make product placement for Windows next to it a priority if I were Walmart.

"Unsophisticated" buyers relate size to value so it needs to have a large case.

It'll be interesting to see how linux will handle these kinds of users. Maybe this is a good thing?
