Wii can’t do this: PS3 enters into Guinness Book of World Records
By Danny Mendez
It’s no secret the PS3 packs a real punch when it comes to computing power. Add in some of Stanford’s Folding@home project, 600,000 registered consoles, and some good ol’ scientific elbow grease and you have a legitimate entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The PS3, according to a Sony press release, played a very important part in helping Folding@home surpass its previous world record set on September 16, 2007 as the project surpasses one petaflop. Later that month, on the 23rd, the collective efforts of idle PS3s around the world reached the one petaflop status on its own.
The Folding@home project distributes computing tasks to several computers around the world to aid in the research of several different diseases. Associate Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University, Vijay Pande, is thankful for the work of the PS3:
“Without them we would not be able to make the advancements we have made in our studies of several different diseases. But it is clear thatnone of this would be even remotely possible without the power of PS3, it has increased our research capabilities by leaps and bounds.”
While the PS3 lags behind in sales compared to the Xbox 360 and the Wii, competing consoles can’t lay claim to a world record and certainly not helping the research efforts of disease fighting scientists.

DuuuuUUUUUUUUUUH!
Firstly who gives a flying fek! This is pure SONY crap advertising novelty of world records when they messed up a games console.
Seccondly By leaving your PS3 on in this project your wasting away the life of your PS3. Them chips wont last forever, and sony love that fact.
Thirdly, “WITHOUT THEM” the project would continue on PC’s as it has done for YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS.
Man, I bet Sony indirectly OWNS BLORGE.
I say BOYCOTT SONY and all their crap products and marketing full of lies. YOU SUCK SONY, YOU HAVE NO ETHICS AND YOUR GOING DOOOWN THE DRAIN ALL COS OF YOUR OWN DOINGS. GOOD RIDANCE!

I’m sorry for the comments above, thei’r just envy fanboys, their little minds can’t think beyond their Xboxs.
If Sony helps they are bad people? If Sony do nothing they are bad people? Yeahh, lot’s of logic.
This article makes us, PS3 howners proud for helping this project!! Can’t you understand that? This is not a “SONY” thing, is a 600.000 people achievment, we are using OUR consoles to help someone, that’s a good thing and not a bad thing, about games I don’t know why do you say there are no good games, maybe you should buy first a PS3 and only then speak, there are allready many good games!

One word to you. JEALOUSY!!!
Relax boys no one cares if u think it’s stupid. Yr jus jealous, and we may not have amny games at the moment, but come the end of 2008 the PS3 will be the only console worth having, with GTAIV on the 3shitty will keep u alive only for a little while.

Oh boy, the PS3 broke a world record? I want one now! NOT! Come on, this won’t help the PS3 sell any more.
Besides, the Wii has the record for fastest selling console within the first 4 months of launch date. Need proof? Go here: http://kotaku.com/gaming/nintendo/charticle-the-first-four-months-249629.php

Good for the PS3 but sadly it is irrelevant since the point of the machine is to serve as a videogame console and in that area is being outclassed by the 360.

A nice article about how people got together and used the ps3 to help protein folding and we still get 360 fanboys here complaining and moaning as usual. Find it strange how they are all over the internet forums, the 360 can’t be that entertaining if they spend all their time whining about people trying to help cure diseases

@Palermo, ratchet and clank would disagree with you.

I love this feature of my PS3, if just for the fact that its doing something when I’m not using it :-)

I own a 360, not yet a PS3 (I plan to very soon) and I can tell all you xbots out there that your “lack of games” arguement is officially dead….by making these statements you simply lower your intelligence in the eyes of mature gamers.

Did an exec from Sony rape your mother or something? sure sounds like it

even when sont has home out 20 great titles and its the year 2008 people will make up more crap why 360 is better. heres som ones you can use when you have no legitimate excuses:
(green lights are cool, sony and their blue lights are crap)
(rrod is like winning the lottery, except more people win)
(If I wanted to upgrade my harddrive on a ps3 anytime i want and go up to 500 mb Id buy a laptop)
(What do you need a harddrive that big anyway,
atleast I can download a crapload of games too old to make it too a cartridge and then labeled in HDTV)
(No one I know uses HDTV so why buy a ps3, stay with 460P it rocks)
Fanboys are like crackwhores Always whining and complaining that their man is all that and a bowl of cherries except in both situations they get beat.
Enjoy your 360 maybe if you work for the garbage company youll find mine laying in a pile.

sure 360 has sold more, but one god reason for that is that ps3 was a half year later and if u look back at ps2, it was a big load of good games… when they enter ps3 it will be wild, all the good games like Jak and Daxter, rachet and clank, grand theft auto (in much better grafik)
that woud be nice, im just waiting for them games 2 get out :P i woud love if Jak got back cuz im a reeeeeeaaaalllyyyy BIGG FAN!!!

Ya know im tired of everyone bashing the PS3 especially 360 Owners. Lets just say The ring don’t go red on a ps3, as a matter of fact ive seen the systems cooling fans and you could leave it on for hours as PPC chips run cooler than your 360’s X86 PC based horse Manure. And i think its a great thing to help the poor or sick of our world anyone with the audacity to bring up my console is better than yours on a thread like this one is a self centered prick in my opinion.
Keep up the good job sony and im waiting for GT5 prologue to come out the 20th of this month and oop’s guess what? 360 owned again! Please i dare you to name one racing title for your precious 360 that can hold a candle to the Gran Tursimo legacy (Or Graphics for that Matter lol)
