Europe gets free Xbox Live Gold subscriptions

By Ruben Francia

Europe gets free Xbox Live Gold subscriptionsMicrosoft has announced that during Xtival 07, a European-only online festival for Xbox 360 users that runs from November 23 to 26, Xbox 360 owners who also have a broadband connection will be able to access the Xbox Live Gold service for free.

Details of the Xtival 07 have not yet been disclosed but Microsoft has promised a line-up of events, competitions, and exclusive downloads.

The free offering will give an opportunity for Xbox Live Silver members and those who haven’t ever plugged a broadband cable into their Xbox 360 to get involved, make new friends and discover the extra features of Xbox Live Gold service.

Existing Xbox LIVE Gold members also get a treat, with the promise of headline acts.

Gold membership currently costs users £39.99 per year, which includes all the benefits of online gaming and access to all areas of the service.

Microsoft has taken some criticism for sticking with its two levels of access to Xbox Live, especially since rivals Sony and Nintendo have no price barriers to their online services, Kikizo writes.

However, the company will continue to offer two levels of access. Hopefully Microsoft is planning a similar offer for US-based Xbox 360 users.
