Zune 1.0 gets Zune 2.0 firmware update November 13
By Danny Mendez
With the introduction of the second generation Zune, Microsoft is also introducing a revolutionary new business practice. Instead of making all previous generation devices obsolete with the introduction of Zune 2.0, Microsoft will release a firmware update to add all the Zune 2.0 features to older Zunes. We should expect this firmware update to hit on the 13th.
The date comes from Zunesphere, and, although it doesn’t cite a source for the information, November 13 makes sense as that is when Amazon is expected to begin shipping the new Zune models.
All Zune 2.0 devices will come with the new firmware by default, and Zune 1.0 owners will have the option of updating to the new firmware, which should feature:
- The ability to wirelessly synchronize your Zune with the music and video library on your home computer over Wi-Fi.
- Access to the new Zune Marketplace, which will feature a huge portion of its catalog in DRM-free MP3 format.
- Access to the Zune Social, an online social network dedicated to sharing and discovering music.
