Early Zune 2.0 units not functional until Tuesday

By Danny Mendez

Early Zune 2.0 units are not functional until TuesdayIt’s no secret some stores leaked the second generation Zune early, but those of you lucky enough to snag one will be sorely disappointed.

According to the users at the Zunerama forums, the proud few who snagged a second generation Zune early can’t get their devices to function, sync, etc. The reason was confirmed by forum member eds who called Microsoft Support.

When the support technician first answered, he tried to walk eds through the set-up process but was quickly interrupted when eds mentioned that he had the second generation Zune.

Immediately, the tech dismissed his claim as the Zunes will not be released until Tuesday. He told eds he had an older Zune, and, in trying to prove his point, asked if the back had a logo on it. The tech was surprised to hear the back was labeled with “8GB.” Eds was then told that he was holding “a little bit of the future.”

The tech explained that he needed the newest Zune software for his computer, which will not be released until Tuesday. Without the software, his computer will not recognize the device correctly.
