Of course, you’re also forgetting that the vast majority of iPod sales happen at Apple’s own stores (both online and brick and mortar). M$ doesn’t have such a store.

On the one hand, the Brown Zune that is now #1 at Amazon used to be the worst selling of the Zune models. Amazon cut the price to clear the shelves. Brown is #1 because it is $10 less than Black, and $20 less than the other colors. My guess is that people are buying them to give as Christmas (gag) gifts ;)

On the other hand, the 80 GB Zune 2 is doing surprisingly well. It is currently #8 and out of stock.

If you Zune lovers have a third hand, you can use it to smack yourselves upside your heads as you lament that it’s competitor, the 80 GB iPod Classic, is currently at #3, and other iPods are at #2, #5, #6, and #7.

The close-out priced Sansa SanDisk is currently #4.

All that means is that whatever amount of Zunes they ordered are gone. We don’t know how many of them they sold, could be 40, could be 4. Being that the old ones stayed in the channel for a looooong time I suspect that the initial orders for these by retailers were pretty low.

There isn’t enough info to tell.

At Amazon.com ipods are included in the mp3 category.

But note that the topselling item is the old 30Gb brown Zune with a massive discount.

The new Zune 2 is #13. Given that new entries usually “spike” initially, this suggests a problem. Please note that sales of ipods through the Apple Store are not counted in any of these.

I would call this concerning for Microsoft, particularly since they have so few models availalbe, while various ipods come up individually.

Sorry Mike. Take a look at the Amazon “best sellers” site. All MP3’s are included in the ratings. These may be “apples and oranges”, but they’re both fruit.
