Teen arrested in Habbo Hotel virtual crime wave
By Sean P. Aune
Theft is nothing new in the world, but who would have suspected that it could come to the virtual world?
It seems that a 17-year-old resident of the Netherlands has been arrested for stealing €4,000 ($5,859 USD) worth of virtual furniture from other users on Habbo Hotel.
For those unfamiliar with it, Habbo Hotel is a virtual site where people from around the world communicate via avatars. Each user has a home that they can decorate with virtual furniture and decor that they purchase with real money. The site is used by six million people in over thirty countries each month.
There were five 15-year-olds also questioned in the case, but they have, as of yet, not been arrested.
Apparently the teenagers set up fake Habbo sites and got users to hand over the passwords by making them think they were logging in. The thieves would then take the log-in information and go to the other user’s “rooms” and steal their furniture, moving it to their own.
While scamming log-in information is nothing new in the online world, this is the first known arrest of its kind. This was escalated to involving real police due to the fact all the furniture is purchased with “Habbo Credits” which are purchased with real money.
As the online economy for these types of sites grows, this is sure to become a sad, but more common, story.

I cannot believe people steal furni!!! I have a habbo myself and have been hacked like 2 times!!! IT’S RIDIColious

We all knew this was gonna happen.
its sad, though. First, you create a habbo. You decide to buy some “credits” and you buy all this furniture. Suddenly, you get a sudden urge to put begginers down, just because theyre either unfamiliar with the controls, or don’t have credits.
then, more and more habbo’s are jealous of this first habbo and decide to also beg there parents for credits, just cause they want more than the other guy. Pretty soon, 3 quarters of the users on habbo have spent quite a number for themselves. Then soon, like I said earlier, everyone has the urge to put Down others, for you see THEY HAVE MORE. Then, the game just becomes a very violent and unruly place.

Jeez. People are so desperate these days. They go through all this crap just to get come virtual furniture. It’s seriously pathetic. And they don’t even bother thinking about the person they’re hacking and how much this makes them a horrible person. Jesus. Stealing is illegal, even if it’s only a virtual game.
OH, and to everyonneee reading this, if you have a Habbo account, do NOT add Kierens – because me and my friend went on his retro, and he hacked my friend. We know it was him because on his retro his username was Kierens and he SAID to me that he was gonna hack me, but our username’s were similar (Mine was Vitari, hers was Vitani) but he hacked her instead of me. I felt so bad.
So yeah. Don’t add kierens unless you want to get hacked.

It’s ridiculous. I have habbo uk and I probably had over £200 or over spent on furni and (surprise surprise) it got hacked. The best thing to do is move habbo accounts.
But the thing is, should we pay for furni?
Peace
