YouTube: High resolution video in 3 months

By Danny Mendez

YouTube: High resolution video in 3 monthsAccording to YouTube co-founder Steve Chen, YouTube will soon start to serve their library of content in higher resolutions. In more important news, full-screening a YouTube clip will actually be a good idea.

Ok, YouTube video quality isn’t that bad, but even Chen admits the videos have only been "good enough" up until now. This doesn’t mean YouTube’s current library of video will go obsolete.

According to Webware, the site stores all video in the resolution it was sent. After uploading video to the site, YouTube then automatically converts the clip into the bandwidth friendly, low resolution form we’ve all come to know and love.

In order to deliver higher quality video, YouTube is testing a player that will detect the speed of your connection. It will then provide you with the option to watch a higher quality form of your chosen clip.

If all goes as planned, YouTube could become a worthy movie trailer alternative to Apple.com/trailers. As for when this will go public, high-res YouTube should be ready in 3 months.
