Digg users flock to Mixx

By Triston McIntyre

Digg users flock to MixxConspiracy theories and unfair rankings have left many Digg users dissatisfied with the direction the popular site is heading. A new site, Mixx, looks to offer what Digg was originally all about, without all the underhanded practices and with a more positive environment and user community.

Though Mixx has only been in beta testing for a couple of months, many users are responding positively to the new site as a superior alternative to Digg, according to TechCrunch.

Apparently there is even a niche for Digg switchers called “Digg Refugees” where users can come together to vent their frustrations and discuss conspiracy theories.

Is there a chance that Mixx could truly pose a threat for Digg? Maybe, but not anytime soon. Digg, like Google, has a solid hold on its specific market, and gaining a foothold will be difficult.

That’s not to say that Mixx might not quickly pick up speed; if both users and some of the larger sites that tend to catch links start focusing their attention on Mixx, the site’s traffic could snowball quickly.

Regardless, alternatives are what drive innovation and quality; Digg will be facing another competitor that looks to take away valuable traffic.

Something is going on and it is a bit weird as Mixx is only a digg clone. There are lots of them. I think Earthfrisk.com has a lit more features that you see right from the homepage, yet pligg the open source software is used for both. Digg is great and will stay the king in my opinion, just that the hype of a site that is less than other semi clones like earthfrisk seems a little stupid. Not that I’m saying this site is, just be careful of who we all get information from. Refugees from Digg or any site always bad mouth that site. That doesn’t means we should follow them.
