320GB in your pocket – Western Digital’s ‘Passport’ to storage heaven

By Erna Mahyuni

320GB in your pocket - Western Digital's 'Passport to storage heaven If all you want for Christmas is more hard disk space, then let Western Digital play Santa with their new 320GB Passport(R) Portable Drive. That’s a heck of a lot of storage for something that weighs five ounces.

I’ll have to agree with the following quote from Jim Welsh, vice president and general manager of WD’s branded products group: "It’s not only music that’s consuming space on desktops. Higher resolution pictures and HD videos eat up storage very quickly so we’re excited to make a portable 320 GB solution available for
consumers on the move."

Before you reach for your wallet, do be warned that it isn’t exactly cheap at $229.99 USD. WD has also slapped on some Google software on the drive – the Google Desktop Search, Picasa and yeah, that annoying toolbar. WD’s also included their own WD Sync(TM) software to make data synchronisation simpler and for the paranoid, 128-bit encryption just in case you, well, misplace your expensive pocket drive.

If you must have this, then the drive should be available, along with convenient carry-cases, at selected stores or online at http://www.shopwd.com
