It looks like Dell is pushing all hardware and software warranty support for items purchased from BestBuy to GeekSquad – so you’re pretty much screwed if something breaks ‘under warranty’.

I feel the same way about Best Buy. They are the last place I go for tech. Quickly and good quality are not terms I’d use for Vista.

I don’t even know *IF* Walmart has an OS section at all… they’d be the LAST PLACE ON EARTH I’d buy any technology from.

The Linux PC Walmart sells is… to put it mildly, not for me. Can it export large PhotoShop Files, can it author DVDs (quickly…), can it edit video files, can it get blistering frame rates in Crysis…

I realize it is simply a computer to access the internet and do mundane/average tasks but its not for me. It’s not for me because I need to do all those things I listed quickly and with good quality.

They might and they might not, I’d lean towards not but then again they do have retails space dedicated to Macs…

And yet Best Buy has an actual IT support structure that could presumably profit from it. Do you think Walmart has a Linux OS section?
As far as doing the math,which OS is actually growing and which is hated by people to the point of wanting it’s OS blown off and replaced with something else. If you think the buzz generated by Walmart’s selling out a low end Linux machine and the mostly positive reviews it garnered is being ignored by other retail operations, you know nothing about retail.The fact that Dell is moving into Best Buy, and are already selling Linux machines is intriguing. Those are some of the reasons it would seem likely that Best Buy would be looking at offering a Linux machine. Do you have any logical reasons they wouldn’t, besides not having expensive retail space dedicated to widely available and free software?

Yes, I knew that would come up. Best Buy is (probably) heavily influenced by Microsoft whereas Walmart is probably less so. I would not expect a preinstalled Linux PC to crop up at Best Buy, in fact, at my local Best Buy there isn’t even a section for Linux operating systems, do the math, it won’t happen.

Yeah, that would be as stupid and unsuccessful as Walmart selling a Linux machine. An obviously poor business decision.

Well, those aren’t good enough for me and it’s gotten to the point that the mundane offerings of stores just don’t suit my needs.

I doubt Best Buy would sell anything running Ubuntu be it a Dell or otherwise.
