CompUSA to close all its doors

By Sean P. Aune

CompUSA to close all its doors One of first to take a “super store” approach to the fledgling industry of computers, CompUSA, is about to close all its doors for the last time.

Opened in 1984 in Addison, TX, CompUSA once grew to as many as 229 stores in the United States.  In February 2007, it was announced that 126 of those stores would be liquidated under the supervision of the Gordon Brothers Group, a Boston-based liquidation company.

That round of closings was completed in May of this year, and the remaining stores made a go at trying to keep the company afloat.  Alas, it has now been announced that the company can no longer keep its doors open, and the remaining 103 stores will be closed by the beginning of 2008.

Sales will be conducted in the stores that are still open through the holiday season to liquidate the remaining assets.

Horror stories of the companies customer service abound on the Internet, so there are sure to be many who sees this as a positive.
