Wii beats Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3 in holiday season searches

If the volume of online searches is an indicator of the hottest technology product this holiday season, then the Nintendo Wii will be a clear winner. The combined searches for Xbox 360, PS3 and PS2 have not matched the volume of searches for Wii in November, according to comScore.
comScore, a research firm focus in measuring the digital world, said, millions of consumers have conducted online research for their holiday season purchases.
The volume of online search activities last month seems to prove that technology products are very popular these holidays.
In the US alone, more than 30 millions searches were conducted for Nintendo Wii last November. Wii was followed by Apple iPod with 24.8 million searches and Microsoft Xbox 360 with close to 11 million searches. Sony PlayStation 2 and 3 came next.

According to comScore, “Sony PlayStation 2 generated more searches (9.7 million) than the more recently introduced PlayStation 3 (7.6 million), a sign that consumers are bargain-hunting this year and seeking out more affordable gift options.”
comScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni said “Gaming consoles and accessories represent the strongest growing product category this holiday season, with sales up more than 130 percent versus year ago. The Nintendo Wii is attracting particularly strong interest, as evidenced by the intense search activity occurring around the product.”
While iPods and iPhones are predictably popular, the volume of searches also indicates strong consumer interest in GPS products. According to Fulgoni, “This is a category that can be expected to grow strongly during the next few years.”
