Toshiba ships laptop with copies of Vista and XP

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Toshiba ships laptop with copies of Vista and XP It’s surprising that companies haven’t thought of this idea for and Toshiba has beat everyone else to the starting gate.  You now have the option of purchasing the Satellite T31 laptop with Windows XP and Vista restore DVDs in the box.

Engadget reports laptop ships with Vista Business and XP professional editions right in the box allowing the user to decide which is best after getting it home.  Other specs include a 15.4 inch display, up to a Core 2 Duo T7250 processor, WiFi is optional (yeah, that’s kind of odd), 512MB of memory (also way below standard), an 80GB hard drive (how average), a DVD burner and a 1.3 hour battery (yawn).

Port wise you will get four USB 2.0, Ethernet, PCMCIA (no express card?), a media card reader as well as VGA, S-Video and Firewire.

It is priced between $1,537 and $1,865.  Talk about painful, below average specs and a high price to boot but at least you have a choice of Windows XP and Vista, right?

Nicer laptops with better specs can be had for $1,400 or less with longer battery life, what happened here?

    1. Ken:

I remember in the early ’90’s IBM was selling PS2 computers with copies of Windows 3.11 and OS2 on the hard drives. The first time it booted up you picked which one you preferred, and the other one was wiped.
