Analyst: iPhone will fall victim to serious attack in ‘08
By George Gardner
The iPhone sure has seen a year of imperfections and hacks, causing Apple to release numerous updates to stay ahead of the game; but security analysts say it’s not over, predicting serious attacks on the iPhone will be imminent in 2008.
The iPhone may have been vulnerable in the past, being hacked by a 17 year old kid (who was actually rewarded for doing so); but surely it’s been fine tuned to prevent potential attacks. Arbor Networks says not so much.
Arbor Networks’ Security and Engineering Response Team has claimed that the iPhone will not only be a target, but a major target for cybercriminals in 2008, claiming a “serious attack” will occur in the new year.
Arbor’s team claims these assaults will most likely be disguised as images and other media which can contain embedded malware.
Jose Nazario, senior security engineer at Arbor Networks says, “2007 was the year of the browser exploit, the data breach, spyware and the storm worm. We expect 2008 to be the year of the iPhone attack, the Chinese Hacker, P2P network spammers and the hijacking of the Storm botnet.”
Arbor wasn’t able to provide us with any detailed other information, as this is only a prediction, and a loose one at that. Sure, the iPhone will have its problems, but an ”attack” prediction is so generalized.
In the spirit of predictions, however, we’ll claim that Microsoft Vista, the University of Missouri, and, hell, even the U.S. Pentagon will also fall victim to attack in 2008; but not China.
