T-Mobile and Twitter, friends again, conflicting stories abound
As we reported over the weekend, T-Mobile and Twitter were having some problems with the micro blogging companies short code. The system seems to be working again, but someone forgot to explain this to all of T-Mobile.
On Friday, reports were circulating that use of Twitter’s 40404 short code had been suspended by T-Mobile. This was supported by numerous people contacting their customer support and being told that it was unsupported third-party application. They were essentially told that if they didn’t like it, they could pay the $200 early termination fee and move on.
As of Monday, it appears to have just been a technical glitch, and all is once again working between the two companies. The problem is, it depends on what part of the company you talk to, what answer you get. BLORGE.com was contacted via email by a T-Mobile employee and informed of the following:
Twitter users are welcome to stay connected through T-Mobile service. Rumors that T-Mobile blocks the service are false. T-Mobile confirmed with Twitter that there was a technical issue between the two companies’ systems that temporarily prevented some customers from utilizing the service this past weekend. That issue has since been resolved and the companies are working to prevent such incidents from re-occurring.
That seems reasonable enough, however, if you still email customer support, you get a response like the one Alternageek got. Essentially there is still a portion of the company that feels this is a problem that they have no control over, and takes a very “lump it or leave us” attitude to what was/is happening.
Perhaps the two sides of the company should talk to each other?

Interestingly enough, I received the “rumor” email from Marianne Maestas who is the same exact person that previously gave me the “it doesnt work so pay us $200 and go” email.
