BBC iPlayer to launch next year for Mac and Linux

By Jonathan Schlaffer

iplay The BBC has finally made a version of the iPlayer for all three primary operating system and is now available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

It started off as being available for Windows only and the BBC took some heat for the Windows only launch but maybe some of you will rest easier now knowing that it will be available for all three platforms.

According to ZDnet UK, the BBC did not promise a version for other platforms but now plans a version for most, including Macs at some point in 2008.

The iPlayer is to be marketed starting Christmas day.  My only question is, can iPlayer even compete with Hulu.  As you may know, iPlayer is not accessible to those of us outside the UK so I cannot test that.
