the Blade Runner 5 disc set problem is actually the reverse in the set I just received, disc 1 is a duplicate of disc 5, but has the right disc 1 “Final Cut” label on it.
Called WB 1-800 number and I have to wait till next week to get any follow up info on it.

Ive read several times about blu-ray software issues where apparently its becoming a bit of a inside joke with studio producers. While its obvious all these producers are not in the game to lose money, long term decisions will be made on lower cost easier to produce software / hardware. Blu-ray should have likely prevailed by now with the ps3 giving it the jump, but it hasn’t. With the current state in a stalemate (so Sonys CEO stated), I can see production leaning to the least expensive method. This was a factor in Dreamworks/Universal despite the cash incentive. There is a strong indication Disney is about to jump ship from blu-ray to a neutral position as well. With HD players averaging 20-50% lower in price, I’d be losing sleep had I bought a Blu-ray right now.

it looks like the big price drop in both HD and Blu-ray are good signs for us the consumers to benefit from the format-war:

Yeah i agree with Hutuir. I would be so surprised if WB went HD DVD as i see no advantages of doing so unless they get offered more money by far than what the BD group could.

I don’t think the author was implying that WB was doing this on purpose, but rather that if WB is making the transition to HD-DVD, they may be scaling back their QC/service/support for Blu-Ray, thus leading to these types of annoying oversights.
More likely though, I think these issues happened due to increased production runs for christmas shopping and the fact that it was Blu-Ray was mere coincidence. its not uncommon at this time of year to see a bit higher incidence for this type of thing.

Yeah, it makes perfect sense for Warner Bros. to intentionally put out faulty product that will anger consumers, deluge their customer service representatives, and cost them money to replace.
