Radiohead throwing free concert online for New Year’s Eve

By Danny Mendez

Radiohead throwing free concert online for New Year's EveYou can hardly call it "throwing" a concert, but Radiohead will release a free, pre-recorded concert on its site for New Year’s Eve. Cross off another item on the list of technological "experiments" to pull online.

The members consider themselves part of the most "technologically literate" band of its time, and perhaps they’re right. They’re in it for the music (though money may be the second reason), and they’re letting fans know it through their actions and the sound.

The free concert will be viewable through Radiohead’s site, and it’ll also make an appearance on Current TV, a US and UK channel. The concert celebrates the physical release of the band’s latest album, In Rainbows, which was released for a "pay-what-you-want" price on its site

The experiment turned out to be a theoretical success, though they’d still like to release the album via the good ol’ traditional CD. The album, which is no longer downloadable, should hit British shelves December 31 and US racks December 32 according to the Guardian.
