First GPS/Radar combo units to be introduced in 2008

Uniden First GPS/Radar combo units to be introduced in 2008Uniden, known for being makers of high end radar detectors for many years, has entered the GPS navigation system game. Upping the ante on all of the other GPS and radar detectors out there, they are releasing the very first GPS and Radar detector combo in 2008. They haven’t released the details of its features yet, but the combination looks promising.

Personally, if this radar detector and GPS combo will show me where the speed traps are in addition to showing my destination, I will definitely be an early adopter. I have wanted a radar detector to do that for years. Uniden hasn’t said anything about including that feature, but we can hope.

The unit will be called a MapTrax GPS navigator, and the radar will be built in to the unit. It seems to have a decent sized screen, judging by the photos shown online, which is nice. I had rejected some of the others like the Garmin and the Tom Tom because they were so small.

Where can you see this beautiful new machine? At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and on store shelves sometime in 2008. Each unit is reported to be BlueTooth compatible, offer text to speech functionality, preloaded maps and 2GB of map memory, have a TFT LCD day/night screen, and the backbone NavTech system. Uniden is also claiming to have improved the windshield mounts currently on the market for better grip and no slip. Here is one of the proposed models:

Great product. After long research, it seems as Garmin is best gps product over all.
Signal is always good, fast re-route calculation, easy to use, most all very effecient.
This was my 3rd Garmin product and it is worth every penny.

This is my second GPS system I have owned. I replaced a Garmin C340 with the Nuvi 780. The 780 is absolutely awesome.

The Bluetooth works good. I wouldn’t go as far as saying great. The volume needs to be turned down or the caller on the other end gets some echo. Otherwise the sound is clear and matching to my Motorola phone was seemless.

The features on this GPS far exceed the competition. Maps are accurate. features are easy to use. I just love it all around. Paired up with the MSN network, you just can’t go wrong!
