Bebo beats MySpace and Facebook in tests by computer experts

By Dave Parrack

Bebo beats MySpace and Facebook in tests by computer expertsThe latest survey results on the state of the social network war are in, and it seems Bebo may be forging ahead of its big rivas Facebook, and MySpace.

Everyone has an opinion on it, and most of us use at least one of the big social networking sites. depending on what you want from your site. The experts over at Computer Which? magazine have had their say, and decided that out of the top ten most popular social networks, Bebo is the best.

Which? published an independent survey, which assessed the ten most popular social networking sites. They were rated on how easy they are to set up, their range of features, and most importantly the duel needs of both privacy and security.

Bebo came top of the tests with a 79 percent rating, while Facebook wasn’t very far behind on 74 percent. The main reasons were ease of use, and how good they were at enabling socialising.

Bebo came top due to encouraging responsible networking by enabling people to easily hide their details from others, and giving plenty of options to block unwanted people.

Facebook was praised for its simple interface, but lost marks due to its security measures being confusing. Deleting your account, and how to do it permanently was also a reason it lost to Bebo.

The current market leader MySpace came third with a disappointing 67 percent. It seems there may be just too many opportunities to customise your account, and look, on the site. We’ve all seen those gaudy, confusing MySpace layouts, and so would agree with the experts opinions.

Yahoo! Groups came bottom of the top ten, only receiving a score of 59 percent. The magazine described the site as “less sophisticated than its rivals”.

Abigail Waraker, the editor of Computing Which?, explained (via The Independent):

“Social networking sites are growing in popularity and, as the success of Bebo in our test shows, sites like MySpace and Facebook can’t rest on their laurels if they want to stay in the game.

“It’s also encouraging to see that no matter what age you are or what interests you have, there is a social networking site out there for you.”

I personally think there’s a place for all the many social networks and copycat sites popping up, even the niche ones like Kylie Minogue’s. But I went from MySpace to Facebook, and haven’t looked back since.

I think security is becoming an increasing concern amongst users, and the way these sites control that may have a big impact in how they all fare in the coming months.

    1. Myspace Comment:

Well, it is known, that myspace is not perfect application, it had so much security issues recently, they had confusing interface, broken html for layouts, but they are most popular and biggest social network, and that is reason, why it is so hard to do any modification, and improve security, interface and so on.
We will see what will be with bebo, when they become more popular.
