16 CompUSA stores to remain open under new ownership

By Sean P. Aune

16 CompUSA stores to remain open under new ownership It seems that the story last month of CompUSA closing all of its doors may have been a bit premature.

According to a story from Reuters, Systemax Inc. is paying upwards of $30 million USD for 16 of the stores, the brand name and the ecommerce site.  The final price will be determined by which 16 of the remaining stores they choose to purchase.

The retailer first opened in 1984 in Addison, TX.  It was one of the first companies to go the route of the “super store” in regards to electronics, but it had hit financial troubles over the past few years with the rise of online sales.  It was announced in December that the company would be closing it’s final stores.

Systemax is a manufacturer of computers under their own name as well as Tiger and Ultra.
