2007 online holiday shopping sales up 19% over 2006

AQM221 Retail stores may have had a hard time this holiday season, reporting 1% to 2% more sales than last year but online retailers were raking in the dough with sales reported to be 19% above 2006 figures during the November 1 to December 31 holiday shopping season. 

comScore which keeps track of e-commerce sales reported spending reached $29.2 billion during that time frame which is a 19% increase over last year.

The company also reported that Monday, December 10, was the heaviest online shopping day of the year with $881 million in sales reported reported that day and $819 million spent on December 11.

Video games, consoles and accessories were reported as the fastest growing retail category, mainly driven by the Nintendo Wii.
