HBO goes Blu-ray only in HD DVD vs Blu-ray war, Universal & Paramount may follow soon Back and forth, up and down, the rumors of Paramount leaving HD DVD just won’t die!

First up, it has officially been announced that HBO is going Blu-ray only. This really is not surprising as Time Warner has already turned their two film studios, Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema, to Blu-ray only.

So now comes the never-ending rumors about Paramount. First we heard they were leaving, even though their exclusivity doesn’t end until February 2009. Then the official company line was that they were currently supporting the format. Now according to Digital Bits, it was all in the wording about “currently”, because they hear they are still prepping to go Blu-ray only.

Then there are more rumors that Universal may be heading out the door with Paramount if they do go. All-in-all, there are currently rumors that upwards of 20 more companies are looking to pull their HD DVD support any day now, and seeing as only 130 remain, things are not looking good.
