Are HD DVD adopters returning players as they prep to switch sides in the HD DVD vs Blu-ray war?

By Sean P. Aune

Are HD DVD adopters returning players as they prep to switch sides in the HD DVD vs Blu-ray war? The woes of the HD DVD camp seem to keep mounting, and now it seems it’s not just the companies that provide the content, but also the consumers who bought the format.

Gizmodo is reporting that they overheard at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that people who bought cheap players over the holidays are returning them.

It seems a bit far fetched that people are up on the situation enough, but then it turns out Toshiba, the main company behind HD DVD, addressed this issue with Bloomberg radio.  They are saying that they are not seeing any return issues and that the format is continuing to sell.

Considering all the bad news the format keeps getting, it’s hard to believe that anyone would still be buying into the format at this late date.

    1. Phil:

Actually, the low end Toshiba HD DVD is still a good buy because it is an excellent upscale player of SD DVD’s.
