Consumers use petitions to try to end the HD DVD vs Blu-ray war
The consumers seem to have a few things to say about how the high definition format war should end, and they’re doing it via petitions.
Both HD DVD and Blu-ray have had their support bases since the format war started, and both have been rather vocal in their support throughout the course of the showdown. Now that it seems to be winding down, they have a new vehicle: Petitions. And, just like the rest of this war, there are two sides to it.
When Warner Brothers announced they were going Blu-ray only, the first petition popped up named, “Save HD-DVD! (Warner Brothers, The Consumer Has Not “Clearly” Chosen Blu-Ray)“. The thrust of this movement, as the name would imply, is to get Warner Brothers to change their mind, and continue to support HD DVD. Thus far the petition has garnered 13,146 signatures as of this writing.
On the other side, you have the simply titled, “Let HD DVD Die” petition. This petition calls for the studios still supporting HD DVD to pull out and just let the format die that much quicker. The current number of signatures stands at 5,065.
While it’s fun to set up online petitions to state your side in any argument, the track record with such efforts doesn’t offer much encouragement that any one pays much attention to them. The state of “the war” is what it is, and no amount of signatures will change what’s going to happen.
