Universal reaffirms HD DVD support; Evidence of Paramount changing sides in the HD DVD vs Blu-ray war
By Sean P. Aune
It seems that Universal Studios isn’t going to be changing their allegiance in the HD DVD vs Blu-ray war anytime soon.
In a recent interview with BetaNews, Ken Graffeo, executive vice president for Universal Studios said, “there are no plans to make any changes.” He also went on to say, “We just made an announcement of our new HD DVD titles yesterday, with American Gangster. We also have a lot of other things planned. It’s business as usual.”
While Universal is saying that they are firmly in the HD DVD camp, Paramount has also stated that they have no intentions of going over to Blu-ray, but then something interesting popped up in the United Kingdom.
While I have no idea on the status of Blu-ray releases in the UK, AVReview.co.uk makes it their job to know what’s going on. They are reporting that over on Amazon.co.uk three Paramount titles (Anchorman, Coming to America, Trading Places) have mysteriously shown up for pre-order; all three show a release date of March 10, 2008. I have checked the US version of Amazon.com and not found the same titles being listed.
True, this could be a mistaken listing by an Amazon employee, but with the rumors that constantly circle around Paramount changing sides in the war, one has to wonder if this is a signal of a pending announcement.

Very strange indeed, what so surprising in Trading Places to be released in HD-DVD?
