Madden video game predicts Patriots will win Super Bowl XLII

By Dave Parrack

Madden video game predicts Patriots will win Super Bowl XLIITonight is the night where the New York Giants and the New England Patriots go head to head in Super Bowl XLII. I’m British, and even I’m interested in the game, and who will emerge victorious. EA think they already know, having used Madden NFL 08 to predict the winner.

This isn’t a new phenomenon, by any means, as Electronic Arts have done the exact same thing for the last five years in a row, and guess what? Although the actual scoreline has differed quite considerably, the result has always been spot on.

EA ran a simulation of tonight’s match up through the popular video game and the result was quite clear. The New England Patriots will beat the New York Giants by 38 points to 30.

According to Reuters, Madden NFL 08 predicted the Patriots will take an early lead via a brace of touchdowns by running back Laurence Maroney. The Giants will then fight back to within a point by the third quarter, only to see a pass from quarterback Tom Brady to receiver Randy Moss secure the game, and a perfect unbeaten 19-0 season.

Okay, this is only a simulation, but the fact that the result has been correctly forecast by the Madden franchise for five years in a row has got to mean something… surely?

Madden NFL 08 is just the latest instalment to the long running video game series, and is available on pretty much every console you care to think of.

Super Bowl XLII takes place in Arizona tonight, and if the result predicted here ends up being correct, just remember where you heard it first.
